Working Equitation Florida

Become a Working Equitation Licensed Official

WEFL is looking for a small, motivated group of riders, trainers, and show staff who want mentoring and a clear pathway to becoming USAWE‑licensed Working Equitation judges and Technical Delegates (TDs).

Right now, Florida has a vacuum of licensed officials. That makes it harder and more expensive to run schooling shows and almost impossible to build a full calendar of licensed competitions without flying people in.

If you’ve ever thought “someone should fix that,” this pathway is for you!

Fill out the form below and let us know you are interested!

What this pathway offers

The WEFL Licensed Officials Pathway is not a replacement for USAWE’s Licensed Officials Program—it’s a guided on‑ramp to it.

As a pathway participant, you can expect:

  • Mentoring to understand the official USAWE requirements and map out your personal plan (seminars, applications, shadow‑judging, TD experience).
  • Help finding real‑world opportunities to scribe, volunteer, and shadow at WEFL‑supported clinics, schooling shows, and (as we grow) licensed shows in Florida.
  • Priority consideration for paid L‑judge and TD roles at WEFL‑supported schooling shows once you’re eligible.
  • Promotion as a “WEFL‑Supported Official in Training” in our professional listings and marketing so organizers know who is actively working through the pathway.
  • Access to information about upcoming official WE seminars and judge/TD education opportunities, including those we aim to host here in Florida in conjunction with major venues like the Jacksonville Equestrian Center.

WEFL does not pay your USAWE or USDF program fees—but we do everything we can to make the path clearer, closer to home, and more rewarding.

Who we’re looking for

You may be a great fit if you are:

  • A trainer, clinician, or serious rider who wants to turn your WE knowledge into a professional service as a judge or TD.

  • An experienced show volunteer, scribe, or organizer who loves rules, details, and good sport.

  • Someone who wants a side career in Working Equitation with real responsibility and paid assignments at shows once you’re licensed.

We are especially interested in candidates willing to pursue both Learner “L” Judge and Technical Delegate licenses, because the rule knowledge overlaps and it doubles your options to work.

What you’ll need to invest

This program is for people ready to put some skin in the game.

Pathway candidates are expected to:

  • Hold a WEFL Pro or Founder membership with a Pro listing and maintain a current USAWE membership.

  • Commit time and travel for required seminars, shadowing, and TD experiences.

  • Complete USAWE applications, tests, and documentation on time.

  • Support WEFL events as a volunteer and, later, as paid staff when licensed.

In return, WEFL will prioritize you when we recommend and hire officials for clinics, schooling shows, and licensed competitions in Florida.
