Working Equitation Florida

What IS Working Equitaition?

Working Equitation is where partnership meets purpose. Originally rooted in the working horsemanship traditions of the Iberian Peninsula, Working Equitation combines dressage, obstacle handling, speed, and cattle work into one of the most well-rounded and accessible equestrian disciplines in the world. It welcomes all breeds, all ages, and all experience levels — and rewards riders who invest in a deeper relationship with their horse.

Amie Fulks & Amelia

Dressage Trial

Horse and rider perform a prescribed pattern of movements judged on precision, impulsion, submission & presentation. Each level has its own test.

EOH Trial

Horse and rider navigate a course of obstacles — gates, bridges, water, and more — judged on agility, submission, and working attitude. Required at all levels.

Speed Trial

The same obstacles, now ridden as quickly and accurately as possible. Included at all levels except Introductory.

Cattle Trial (optional)

A team of riders works together to separate and move cattle — a nod to the sport's working ranch roots. Available at Novice through Masters levels.

How WEFL came to be.

Florida has no shortage of talented riders and beautiful facilities — but for years, Working Equitation competitors here have had to look out of state for organized events, licensed competitions, and a real community. Working Equitation Florida was founded to change that.

WEFL was built from the ground up with a clear mission: create a well-organized, more connected, and more member-responsive home for the sport in Florida. That means real events, clear communication, year-end recognition for members, and a path toward USAWE-licensed competition here at home — not someday, but now.

We are actively seeking host barns, volunteers, and riders who want to help build something that will serve Florida's equestrian community for years to come.

Experienced Leadership. Florida Focus.

Amie Perryman

Amie D. Perryman, Founder & Director

Amie brings decades of professional riding, training, and equestrian business experience to Working Equitation Florida. A Riding Master V instructor with a Bachelor of Science in Equine Science, Amie has trained and competed across the East Coast and Midwest in Combined Training and Dressage before discovering Working Equitation — a sport she describes as the most complete expression of true horsemanship she has encountered.

A 2024 Top Ten finisher in the USAWE Intermediate B (L5) Open Division and a USAWE "L candidate" (Learning) judge, Amie trained intensively in Portugal with master trainer Joao Lynce and brings that international perspective directly into WEFL's programming and standards.

Her vision for WEFL is simple: build the kind of organized, member-driven affiliate organization that Florida riders have been waiting for.

Speed is fun but when first learning, best done under control! Better to be slow and not get DQ'd (disqualified)!
